The Doors History Chronicled in New Book ‘Night Divides The Day’

From the late ‘60s to the start of the ‘70s, The Doors emerged as the figureheads for a bold new guard in rock, sharing a string of unprecedented albums that forever altered the face of popular music. Featuring the magnetic Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Kreiger and drummer John Densmore, the Los Angeles quartet pooled their talents and marked their unique perspective with a heady brew of rock, blues, and psychedelia. After their final album, L.A. Woman, and Morrison’s sudden passing in 1971, their ride came to an end, but not before solidifying their status as one of the greatest bands of their era and leaving an enduring influence on generations of artists to come.
In honor of the 60th anniversary of The Doors’ formation, Genesis Publications has announced Night Divides The Day, the authoritative record of the band’s story. Available now as a hardcover bookstore edition, the 50,000-word manuscript divulges the quartet’s rise and reign in unprecedented detail with in-depth interviews from Krieger and Densmore and archival text from Morrison and Manzarek. These first-hand accounts are supported by reflections from high-profile peers and fans like Van Morrison, Nile Rodgers, Slash and Nancy Sinatra, plus a foreword from Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic.
This intimate view of The Doors’ history is framed by a wealth of visual materials curated from the artists’ personal archives. Among the previously-unseen items printed are childhood photographs, handwritten lyric sheets, album photo outtakes, in-studio contact sheets, movie stills, poster art and new photos of the instruments and recording equipment that made their message heard.
For die-hard fans, the book is also available as a limited edition box set shipping now. Each numbered printing in the run of 2,000 is signed by Krieger and Densmore and features a broad format 344-page, assorted historical memorabilia and an exclusive seven-inch vinyl record with rare demos of “Hello, I Love You” and “Moonlight Drive.”
