Brisbane/Meanjin-based pop-metalcore trio Torizon are fearlessly smashing through barriers and taboos on their fresh single ‘Bloom’, an emotionally-charged proggy belter that gives voice to some weighty themes that are rarely spoken about in music, let alone the male-dominated heavier genres.

Lyrically, ‘Bloom’ uses the metaphor of a flower that never bloomed to convey profound loss, introducing us to the characters of Luna and Sam as they go through a harrowing miscarriage.

Torizon: ‘Bloom’

“There is still stigma around the topic of miscarriage and fertility issues – it’s one of the most traumatic things people go through, and yet it’s still not talked about enough,” lead vocalist Mish Sharma explains in a press statement.

“When we started exploring this concept, people in our circle opened up about the societal pressure to be secretive about it all, which only perpetuates the isolation, she continues. “This set in motion a body of work that starts with ‘Bloom’ and will unfold over the next few months.”

Based in Brisbane, Torizon have styled themselves as “petalcore”- fusing metalcore and alt-metal elements with the infectious hooks of pop music.

While you wait for the next chapter in their unfolding musical narrative to arrive, you can stream the stirring music video for ‘Bloom’ up above.
