Less than a month from the Worthy Farm gathering in Pilton, Somerset, UK, known as Glastonbury Festival, Rod Stewart has confirmed a long-awaited reunion with his former bandmate and longtime friend, guitarist Ronnie Wood, sparking talks of a Faces comeback.
Stewart appeared on the latest episode of the UK’s popular That Peter Crouch Podcast, released today on streaming sites under “Rod Stewart: Wild 70’s Stories, Drunken Cup Draw, and Elton John’s MULTI-MILLION Dollar Gift.” During the conversation, Stewart mentioned plans to reunite with Wood on the festival stage in June.
Broaching the topic of a reunion, the musician was asked if he keeps in touch with other UK artists, including Elton John and Wood. Stewart responded, “Not really[…] With Woodie, I do a lot, just recently, because we’re going to do Glastonbury together.”
The musician, whose independent career has accounted for “Maggie May” and others, was already slated to appear at Glastonbury, having received the highly-prized Legends Slot on the Sunday schedule. “I was only supposed to play for an hour and a quarter, but asked them, ‘Please, another 15 minutes,’ cause I play over two hours every night and it’s nothing,” he expressed.
Stewart and Wood share roots in The Jeff Beck Group prior to forming the band known for classic songs like “Ooh La La,” “Stay With Me,” and more. The suggested reunion would follow years of pent-up anticipation and rumors of musical concourse.
Drummer Kenney Jones also alluded to more from the Faces in recent years. He hinted at potential for an album in 2021, “It’s a mixture of stuff we never released which is worthy of releasing and there’s some new stuff which is really wonderful… Rod is writing the lyrics and he’s really keen on it.”
