The Amity Affliction have christened their new era and freshly minted lineup by ticking off a big item on every Australian artist’s bucket list… one that had, until now, managed to elude the post-hardcore giants for the entirety of their two-decade-plus career: tackling triple j’s Like A Version.

Just one day after unveiling their first single featuring new clean vocalist and bassist Johnny Reeves (Kingdom Of Giants) in place of Ahren Stringer, the emotionally-wrought metalcore crusher ‘All That I Remember’, the Gympie-bred group stepped into the triple j studio to make their Like A Version debut, tackling Turnstile‘s chart-scorching hardcore party stomper ‘Holiday’.

Recruiting their mate, Australian celebrity synth shredder Misstiq, as well as a handful of furious violin-wranglers, Amity gave the Turnstile banger a fantastically huge update while still staying true to the spirit of the OG, with frontman Joel Birch successfully flexing a much more hardcore style of screaming; his gravelly delivery perfectly complimenting new recruit Reeves’s pitch-perfect cleans.

“Back in hardcore, you would cover your friends’ bands,” guitarist Dan Brown told triple j of their decision to pick Turnstile.

“That was quite normal to be like ‘oh, this other band from our hometown play this song and we like it too, so we’re gonna play it too.’ Bands would almost share songs. Hopefully [Turnstile] see it like that.”

So far, the reaction from fans to the cover has been hugely positive.

Take it for a spin up above for yourself to see why.
