Robert Randolph and Judith Hill Coalesce Talents on New Soul-Stirring Single “When Will The Love Rain Down”
Today, Robert Randolph has unveiled the latest preview of his forthcoming full-length solo album, Preacher Kids, due on June 27, 2025. “When Will The Love Rain Down” features the vocal stylings of Judith Hill, who adds a soul-stirring ache to the pedal steel pulse of Randolph’s choice instrument. The track arrives in tandem with the official music video, an unabashed filtration of raw and emotional musical output akin to the blues and gospel ether.
“When Will The Love Rain Down” is the third single from the artist’s impending solo release. The track started as an instrumental jam fueled by the evocative percussive timing of Willie Barthel (drums) and cut by the wail of Randolph pedal steel—the heavy-hitter provides musical salvation, spirited by Hill’s unmatched charisma on the mic and powerhouse single-take approach.
“I was in tears listening to it,” says Randolph via press release. “I told her, ‘I can’t sing this — it has to be you.’ We thought of having her come into the studio to record it, but you can’t recreate that kind of pain and beauty twice. The vocal you hear on the record? That’s her demo. That’s the real thing.”
Preacher Kid represents Randolph’s debut on the esteemed Sun Records. Produced by Shooter Jennings, the collection provides listeners with a raw, roots-focused extemporization of gospel, blues, rock, and soul. The set showcases the musician’s capacity, solo and with the help of others, including fellow guests Margo Price and Tash Neal, who adds guitar on today’s single release.
In conjunction with the forthcoming release, Relix presents a limited-edition Preacher Kids vinyl as a special offer. The clear vinyl variant, limited to just 500 copies worldwide—only 250 of which are available in the U.S.—is exclusively available via relix.shop. Pre-order now.
