Dave Matthews Band Revive “Dive In” for First Time Since 2021 in Ohio
Dave Matthews Band reprised their Summer Tour this past weekend, arriving at two concert locations: Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, on Friday, May 30, and a Saturday night follow-up on May 31 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md. The performances came after the ensemble, known for its high-energy display, added “Peace on Earth” to its repertoire during its concert in Syracuse, N.Y., on Tuesday, May 27. The move effectively sparked a trend that seeped into the weekend’s offerings.
The band’s Friday concert commenced with an oldie, “The Song That Jane Likes,” before stepping through the years and arriving at the early aughts delivered, “Big Eyed Fish.” Sticking with the Busted Stuff pulls, they merged the latter into “Bartender.” Next, they inserted the longtime staple “Satellite” before harking back to the title track off the group’s 2002 released LP. Stefan Lessard stepped forward for a solo intro on what became a sprawling “Crush,” clocking in at over 15 minutes, ultimately assuming the title of the most extended play of the night.
The fade out of “Crush” yielded Friday’s highlight, the first “Dive In” since Nov. 8, 2021. The song’s arrival concluded a significant performance gap and functioned as the unofficial starting point for other setlist shenanigans: an interpolation of “Stairway to Heaven” while covering “All All Around the Watchtower,” and later on, a taste of “Madman’s Eyes” that functioned like a fake and became “Minarets.” Tuesday’s first-time arrival, “Peace on Earth,” turned up on the setlist once again. On this occasion, it assumed the initial slot as an encore, performed by a solo Matthews.
During Dave Matthews Band’s Saturday follow-up in the Old Line State, they continued to cycle through highlights from their expansive catalog, including first-time arrivals for this calendar year, “So Right,” “Do You Remember,” and “Stay (Wasting Time).” Next up, Dave Matthews Band will take their tour to the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, N.J. Tickets remain on sale.
