Talking Heads are up to something.
On Monday, June 2, the iconic tastemakers posted a brief video on their social media channels. The clip’s arrival, which spans eight seconds and simply reads: June 5, 2025, ignited a wave of anticipation and theories related to the date.
In the video, the moon rises and falls three times, providing a natural countdown to the reveal. It is set to Tina Weymouth’s instantly recognizable opening bass riff of “Psycho Killer,” leading some to speculate a reunion is on the horizon. Others pointed out the spring 2025 surfacing of the “Psycho Killer” demo tape as a potential reason for the clip.
In actuality, June 5 is a date of importance for the original band, comprised of David Byrne, Chris Franz, Jerry Harrison, and Weymouth, who performed their first ever gig, opening for the Ramones at New York’s CBGB club on June 5, 1975, meaning Thursday’s arrival also marks 50 years since the band’s live debut.
Fans have tossed alternative theories, pointing out the group’s 2024 appearance on Fallon seemed to revamp rumors and hopes for live performances. The last time Talking Heads played was February 6, 1984, at the Sweetwaters South Festival in Christchurch, New Zealand, delivering a 12-song set that included “Burning Down the House,” “Making Flippy Floppy,” and others.
The group disbanded in 1991. Eventually, in 2002, they reunited on “Life During Wartime,” “Psycho Killer,” and “Burning Down the House” during their induction ceremony into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Since then, members have kept busy. Harrison and 80s-era member Adrian Belew have supported Remain in Light with a series of tours. In January 2024, Billboard reported that the band was offered a sizable financial amount to reunite at Empire Polo Club during Coachella.
Notably, after Talking Heads channels began circulating the video, members Byrne and Harrison reposted the clip on their Instagram stories. At the same time, Franz opted for a grid placement and caption: “Can’t Wait.”
