The second Regional & Remote Music Summit’s program has been announced.

Taking place in Byron Bay from July 23-25th, The MusicNSW-hosted event will look at ways to promote tours and festivals under the theme ‘Strengthening Regional Music Communities.’

It will feature ten sessions including keynotes, panels, and workshops aimed at improving the music industry’s impact on regional Australia.

“The Regional & Remote Music Summit invites artists, industry, researchers and community leaders to join us in robust conversation around the importance of regional leadership in a thriving Australian music landscape,” said Joe Muller, Managing Director of MusicNSW.

“From touring in a climate-conscious world, to the roles of community radio, DIY touring and festivals in cultivating strong music cultures, we will centre regional voices and offer inspiration and insights for anyone interested in music as a force for connection, renewal and sustainability in our communities.”

Among the industry leaders appearing at the event is Director of Music Australia, Millie Milgate. Their keynote will provide an update on the rollout of Australia’s five-year national cultural policy Revive: a place for every story, a story for every place.

In an opinion piece published on The Music Network ahead of the inaugural Regional & Remote Music Summit last year, Sosefina Fuamoli stressed the importance of such an event.

“Our creative landscape in Australia is changing more in recent years as a result of recent history spent losing revenue, venues, and sustainable pathways where they were once guaranteed,” she wrote.

“Pouring consideration and effort into uplifting and sustaining the regional and remote live music industries, bridging skill gaps and developing artists in a way that supports their connection to culture, artistic vision and ambitions – frankly, it has never been more important.”

Fuamoli continued: “Artists and industry across our vast remote and regional areas aren’t looking for the quick fix of success; but what they do need, is to be taken as seriously as their major capital cousins.”
