Patreon Ups The Cut It Takes From Creators to 10%

Creator monetization platform Patreon is making changes to its fee structure in August. The company is consolidating its tiered pricing model into a single standardized plan that will take a 10% cut from creators’ earnings.

The new consolidated plan is a balance between its current offering of 8% on the Patreon Pro plan and 12% on the Patreon Premium tier. The higher premium tier will now be phased out for new sign-ups. Patreon has also announced that creators who have established Patreon pages by the August 4, 2025 change will not see any changes to their current rates.

“Since we last updated our prices six years ago, Patreon has expanded beyond just payments to include media hosting, community, and discovery,” the blog post announcing the change reads. Patreon also emphasized a suite of new features introduced to support creators in building stronger, more engaged communities and monetizing their work more effectively. Those features include a new native video hosting option, livestreaming capabilities, free memberships, digital goods sales, and gift subscriptions—mimicking features on live platforms like Twitch.

Patreon’s new standard plan will offer all core features previously available in Patreon Pro, including video, community chats, and podcast syncing. As a bonus, Patreon is also increasing the amount of free video storage provided to creators, moving from 100 hours of video all-time to 100 hours of video per month—a substantial upgrade to creators who produce video content. Platforms like Twitch have faced criticism from their creators for reducing creator revenue shares while limiting its creators to 100 hours for Highlights and Uploads. Patreon’s update means it is more friendly to hosting past content than Twitch.

For creators who were on the Patreon Premium tier, these changes represent a potential reduction in fees. Premium users will be migrated to Patreon’s new ‘Pro + Merch’ plan with an 11% fee—but they can opt to drop the merchandise add-on and pay 8% to align with legacy Patreon Pro users. All new creators will be subjects to the 10% fee, plus applicable taxes and payment processing charges.
