Live Nation expands its footprint of New Zealand festivals with the acquisition of Team Event, the business behind Electric Avenue.

Based in Christchurch, Team Event launched in 2015. In the years since, the fest has grown into a popular two-day fest that welcomes roughly 40,000 party-goers each day.

Major league British acts The Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers plus Australasian stars Lorde and Flume have headlined the Hagley Park stage.

Financial terms of the deal, announced Thursday, July 31st, weren’t disclosed.

“This partnership with Live Nation is an incredible opportunity to secure the long-term future of our business,” comments Director of Team Event Callam Mitchell.

The deal, Mitchell continues, promises to unlock access to talent and expertise that will “only take us to new heights.”

With LN swooping in, Team Event will push on with plans for venue and capacity expansion.

“The past 15 years of building this business has been a journey of blood, sweat and tears but a journey we’re incredibly proud of,” says Mitchell, “and this acquisition is a recognition of that.”

Live Nation’s existing portfolio of festivals in NZ include Rhythm & Vines and the regional Greenstone Summer Concert Tour across New Zealand, plus the Spilt Milk brand in Australia.

“Electric Avenue is a testament to what local grit and vision can create – a world-class live music experience,” comments Mark Kneebone, Managing Director of Live Nation New Zealand.

“We are excited to partner with Callam and Team Event to take Electric Avenue and its festival brands to the next level, giving fans get even greater access to local and international talent while supporting the future growth and success of this iconic New Zealand festival.”

The next edition of Electric Avenue will be presented February 27th and 28th, 2026 at its Hagley Park base. The 2025 show was headlined by The Prodigy and featured performances by Chase & Status, Wilkinson, Empire of the Sun, Khruangbin, The Kooks, L.A.B, Rudimental and others.
