Florida Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna vows to address “unchecked corruption” in the rap industry after Nicki Minaj reached out to her for help.

Rapper Nicki Minaj has drawn the attention of Florida Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna, asking for help with alleged threats made by a DJ and streamer online. The remarks came from MackWop, an associate of Top Dawg Entertainment, commenting on the social media feud between Nicki and SZA.

“Hey Nicki, relax, relax before you get put in a blender like your boy did,” said MackWop during a livestream. Minaj then reposted the clip on social media, writing, “Is this a threat?” The “Starships” rapper even tagged the FBI in her post. “Did you just threaten to harm me? @FBI I want this man investigated right away,” she added in a follow-up post.

Then, she reached out to Rep. Luna in another post: “This man just publicly threatened me. I’ve notified the FBI [and] CIA. I want this thug locked up [and] I’m ready to talk about everything these [people] have done to me.”

It’s unclear to whom MackWop was referring in his comment, but experts suspect he was talking about the feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. Nicki and Drake are both signed to Young Money Entertainment.

Regardless, Nicki’s calls for Rep. Luna’s assistance did not fall on deaf ears. She released a post confirming she spoke with Minaj directly and “will be doing everything we can to ensure her safety.”

“We take threats of violence and assassination very seriously,” she wrote. “RICO is also illegal. I am deeply concerned that there has been unchecked corruption within certain aspects of the rap industry. Artists should be respected and not afraid of managers, labels, etc.”

It’s notable that Luna made headlines previously over calling for the release of Tory Lanez, who was convicted of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot in 2020.

This week, Nicki took a few swings online at SZA and Top Dawg Entertainment founder Punch. Her lengthy post on the former Twitter alleged that Nicki was originally asked to be featured on Drake’s song “Rich Baby Daddy” instead of SZA. “He wanted me and [Sexyy Red] on it,” she wrote. “I still have the version of just Drake and [Sexyy Red].”

SZA and Minaj continued to go back and forth on social media. Representatives from neither the Nicki nor SZA camp have responded to media requests for comment.
