Taylor Swift prepares to enter her newest era, announcing her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, during a teaser for Travis Kelce’s podcast.
Wake up, Swifties! Superstar Taylor Swift has announced her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl. The news dropped during a teaser for an upcoming episode of Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast.
On Monday, a countdown started on Swift’s official website, expiring at 12:12 PM ET. When it finished counting down, a new teaser for the upcoming podcast episode (which will feature Tay as a guest) appeared on her Instagram.
The clip shows Swift sitting next to boyfriend Travis, announcing she wants to show the boys something. She pulls out a mint green briefcase with her initials written in orange before admitting, “This is my brand-new album, The Life of a Showgirl.” Jason shouts in excitement, while Travis yells, “TS12!”
The album’s cover has been blurred in the clip, as well as on Swift’s website for the pre-orders. The star also didn’t share the album’s release date.
The Life of a Showgirl will be Taylor’s 12th studio album since her 2006 debut, and her first new project since The Tortured Poets Department released in April last year. That album is already 6x Platinum, according to the RIAA, and was nominated for Album of the Year at the 67th Grammy Awards.
Her latest album will be released via Republic Records/UMG, with Swift retaining the rights over publishing and recordings. That’s noteworthy, since the superstar announced securing the purchase of the rights to her early master recordings—ending one of the most contentious rights disputes in music history.
That battle began after music exec Scooter Braun bought the rights to Swift’s first five albums through the acquisition of her former label, Big Machine, in 2019. Braun then sold her masters to Shamrock Capital the following year, and Swift finally made a deal with the company this year.
Even as the drama was in full swing, Swift transformed it into a lucrative opportunity as she released the “Taylor’s Versions” of her original albums. In many cases, the re-released versions outsold the originals. That saga has concluded with the owners of the original masters reselling them to Taylor Swift—who now owns the rights to both the originals and her Taylor’s Version re-recordings.
