Jimmy Herring Confirms Forthcoming LP with Aquarium Rescue Unit Collaborators Oteil Burbridge, Jeff Sipes and Special Guests

Jimmy Herring has confirmed that work has begun on a new Abstract Logix Records album, after an image percolated online of the guitarist posed next to his Aquarium Rescue Unit bandmates, bassist Oteil Burbridge, drummer Jeff Sipe, and Athens, Ga., producer, known for his work with Herring’s other band, Widespread Panic, John Keane. 

The post read: “A long time coming, the work has started for the next Jimmy Herring album for a 2026 release with Oteil Burbridge, Jeff Sipe aka APT Q-258 and some very special guests. Stay tuned for a 2026 release on Abstract Logix Records.”

Herring’s independent catalog accounts for two studio releases, 2008’s Lifeboat, which included backing from ARU collaborators, Oteil and Kofi Burbridge, Sipe, and guest slots featuring Derek Trucks, Greg Osby, Matt Slocum, and others, before resuming solo efforts on 2012’s Subject to Change Without Notice. 

Keane produced the guitarist’s sophomore entry with continued aid from Sipe, Slocum, bassists Neal Fountain and Etienne Mbappe, and guests Bela Fleck, Bill Evans, and Tyler Greenwell [also credited on Lifeboat].  

Herring’s third and final effort as a bandleader resulted in Live in San Francisco, recorded at San Francisco’s The Warfield on December 8, 2018, with John McLaughlin, and assistance from Slocum, Sipe, Jason Crosby, Gary Husband, Etienne M’Bappe and Kevin Scott.
