Beloved Brisbane artist Hatchie has shared her top recommendations for punters heading to BIGSOUND next month.

The annual conference and showcase will stretch across 130 bands, 100 industry speakers, 70 conference sessions and workshops, and 18 stages in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley from September 2-5.

The artist lineup showcases some of the most exciting emerging talent from Australia and Aotearoa, including Hatchie, South Australia’s soulful vocalist George Alice, Perth punk band Heyzuko!, and Queensland’s rising star Jet Walker.

Also on the list are dream-pop act Phoebe Rings, surfy indie group Coast Arcade, dancefloor magnets Flamingo Pier, pop-rock band Borderline, and Auckland-based post-punk band Ringlets.

Meanwhile, former triple j Music Director Richard Kingsmill; DJ, producer and NLV Records owner Nina Las Vegas; Vinyl Group CEO Josh Simons; and Goldenvoice’s Rene Contreras, curator of the Sonora Tent at Coachella, are among the industry heavyweights confirmed to speak at BIGSOUND 2025.

From hidden record stores to scenic parks to the best breakfast spot, here’s what the singer suggested.

Go Record Hunting at Dutch Vinyl

Located in Paddington, Dutch Vinyl is Hatchie’s go-to spot to buy records. She suggested making a day of it, as you can visit other spots on the street like an antique centre, Remy’s cafe, and some wicked vintage stores.

“It’s a treasure trove of new discoveries and deep cuts,” she said.

Take a Break at The Alliance Hotel

To get out of the hustle and bustle of Fortitude Valley, Spring Hill’s Alliance Hotel is a great spot. It’s one of the oldest pubs in the country, and they pour a mean Guinness.

Enjoy Brunch at Scout Cafe

Scout Cafe is one of the best spots for breakfast or lunch, or brunch! A former workplace of hers, she highly recommended the bagels and sweet treats. Tell them Hatchie sent ya!

Relax Outdoors at New Farm Park

Brisbane winter is unmatched, so to enjoy a peaceful afternoon in nature, Hatchie suggested New Farm Park.

“It’s your best local option for some wide open green space with a view of the river. All you need is a jacket and a picnic blanket for a lovely afternoon.”

Catch a Film at New Farm Cinema

Finally, a place she always likes to visit when she’s back in Brisbane, is New Farm Cinema. They have plenty of great retro movie screenings and premieres, and you can have a wine, or three, while you watch.
