Supergroup Golden Smog Announce 2025 Concerts, First Shows with Jeff Tweedy Since 2022
Alternative country-rock supergroup Golden Smog will put on three live shows before the end of the year. The band, known for its rotating lineup and unmistakable onstage chemistry, currently features Jeff Tweedy, Gary Louris, Kraig Johnson, Dan Murphy, Marc Perlman, and Steve Gorman, who will come together beginning on December 5 at The White Eagle in Jersey City, N.J.
The impending live series will likely be the band’s only appearance during this calendar cycle, given its proximity to the new year. Despite its elusive nature, Golden Smog will continue its latest touring endeavors in New York City on December 6, performing at The Bowery Ballroom before the final live gig, December 9, at The Vic, in Tweedy’s Chicago hometown.
The band’s imminent concerts will come after 2024’s one-off, which brought members back to their Minneapolis stomping grounds and cemented drummer Steve Gorman’s position in the band, after initially joining Gary Louris, Dan Murphy, Kraig Johnson, and Marc Perlman as a guest.
Gold Smog combines the talent of members from The Replacements, Wilco, Jayhawks, and Big Star. Notably, today’s news marks a pivotal reentry from Tweedy, who last performed with the band on April 2 and 3, 2022, during another First Avenue concert series in Minneapolis. Before those shows, which marked the venue’s 50th anniversary, Tweedy had not played with the supergroup since 2008, effectively ending a decade-plus withdrawal.
The band released its first EP, On Golden Smog, in 1992, consisting entirely of cover material that ranged from Bad Company to The Rolling Stones and Thin Lizzy, before releasing their initial full-length entry, Down by the Old Mainstream, in 1995.
Their second album, Weird Tales, brought forth some of their most popular and streamed material: “Until You Came Along,” “Please Tell My Brother,” “Glad and Sorry,” before Billboard charting Another Fine Day in 2006. Ultimately, they returned with their latest entry in 2007, with a nod to Dylan via the title, Blood on the Slacks.
The live shows will follow the release of Tweedy’s latest solo album, Twilight Override, on September 26, 2025. Read more and listen to his new single “Feel Free.”
