Genesis Owusu Returns With Anti-Capitalist New Song ‘Pirate Radio’
Genesis Owusu has shared his first new music of 2025: A single entitled ‘Pirate Radio’. It’s his first track since the release of his ARIA Award–winning second studio album Struggler, and sees him collaborating with former Evermore drummer and acclaimed producer Dann Hume – who co-wrote the song and played all the instruments. Check out the new rave-inspired single below.
Owusu did not hold back when giving his press statement on the song’s meaning and intentions. “The rich are getting richer, and us regulars are eating each other alive,” he said. “Smoke-screened by paranoia-inducing culture wars and our own growing poverty. ‘There is no war in Ba Sing Se’ type shit. Someone’s gotta sound the alarm and break the hypnosis – and that someone isn’t going to be the guy saying immigrants are eating your cats and they probably won’t have a billion dollars in their bank account either. If Elon Musk has no more haters, then I’m dead.”

The new track arrives a week before Owusu embarks on a run of intimate shows in Sydney and Melbourne to test out new material from his as-yet-unannounced third studio album. Redstar Wu’s Neighbourhood Jams will take place inside the Studio of the Sydney Opera House from Thursday, September 18th to Saturday, September 20th, as well as The Night Cat in Melbourne from Wednesday, September 24th to Friday, September 26th. Several shows have already sold out.
xmunashe – who works with frequent Genesis Owusu collaborator Jonti – will play an improvised set of music as the opening act for the evening on the first night of each residency. Fred again.. faves Shady Nasty will then take over as support for the second and third nights in both cities. All remaining tickets for Redstar Wu’s Neighbourhood Jams can be found on GenesisOwusu.com.
