The Tipping Point, Tulane University’s Annual Benefit Concert to Feature Taj Mahal, Irma Thomas, George Porter Jr., Oteil Burbridge and More
The Tipping Point has announced the return of its annual benefit concert, slated to support Tulane University scholarships and the City of New Orleans, marking a fully-fledged celebration and giving back to the lively region known for its rich culture and distinct appreciation for music. The ninth edition of the beloved event is scheduled to take place at the Orpheum Theatre on November 14, 2025.
This year’s concert will pull together top-tier talent from Ben Jaffe and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Dawes’ Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith, The Revivalist’s frontman David Shaw, and Dead & Company bassist Oteil Burbridge, joined by renowned bluesman Taj Mahal, fervent vocalist Amy Helms, and New Orleans legends, George Porter Jr. and Irma Thomas.
Like past events, this year’s musical direction will be overseen by Grammy-winning guitarist and producer Eric Krasno, with assistance from Ivan Neville, Tony Hall, Raymond Weber, and the Dumpstaphunk Horns, to form the Tipping Point Band. The collective will take turns performing songs that celebrate the soul and spirit of the city.
“The Tipping Point brings some of the country’s top musicians together for a special evening devoted to ensuring that cost is no barrier for any student who dreams of pursuing a Tulane education,” Tulane President Michael A. Fitts said “As we reflect on the 20 years since Hurricane Katrina, this concert embodies our shared commitment to expanding opportunity for students who will shape the future of New Orleans.”
“The Tipping Point thrives because of the extraordinary talent that has always been at the heart of New Orleans,” offers Nicole Rechter, co-founder of RWE Partners. “Each year we’re honored to unite that homegrown brilliance with artists from across the country, creating a one-night celebration that supports the city and carries forward the legacy of its music.”
According to the official press release, “Since its inception, The Tipping Point has stood alone as the only concert of its kind in the U.S. that directly supports a university. Proceeds from the annual event fund scholarships that enable students to attend Tulane regardless of their economic background. This year’s concert also marks 20 years since Hurricane Katrina and supports the city of New Orleans by celebrating its unmatched musical spirit.”
