Grateful Dead Partner with Pantone, Unveil New Hues “Grateful Red” and “Stealie Blue”

The Grateful Dead have partnered with Pantone to introduce two new color waves inspired by the band’s signature red and blue hues. Dubbed “Grateful Red” and “Stealie Blue,” the colors were scanned from Bear’s Choice album, known for housing live examples of “Dark Hollow,” “I’ve Been Around This World,” and “Wake Up Little Susie,” and was the first official Dead release to feature a stealie. 

The global authority in professional color and the lauded jamband, which observed its 60th anniversary this year, are paying homage to the tie-dyed community by offering products as part of the collaboration. Official merchandise ranges from Grateful Dead Pantone Hoodie, Grateful Dead Pantone Mug, Grateful Dead Stealie Blue T-Shirt, enamel pins, and more. 

David Lemieux, Grateful Dead Legacy Manager and Archivist, commented, “The Grateful Dead’s visual iconography is unmatched in the music world. The Dead’s Steal Your Face logo is their most recognizable icon, with three equally essential key elements: the 13-point lightning bolt, and the two colours, red and blue, that make up the logo’s primary design elements. These shades of red and blue are uniquely and identifiably Grateful Dead icons on their own. To now have two pantone colours immortalizing these shades of red and blue as the official colours of the Grateful Dead is a huge honour.”
