Impressed Recordings has announced a new Senior Label and Operations Manager, The Music Network can reveal.

The Australian indie label has recruited Uppy Chatterjee for the role who brings over 10 years of experience working with some of the biggest entertainment platforms in the world, including Warner Music, YouTube Music, triple j, Audible, and Red Bull across music curation, social media marketing, and music journalism.

“I am elated to be joining Luke Bevans and the talented team at Impressed Recordings,” Chatterjee said.

“Vinyl continues to be a key part of the music superfan experience and as one myself, I’m incredibly excited to be part of a 100% independent label that offers exciting, new artists the very special experience of hearing their work on wax. Vinyl is magic to me, and I hope I can share that magic with people who pick up a gorgeous record from Impressed.”

With a focus on delivering exceptional storytelling from diverse voices and innovative audience-building campaigns, Chatterjee helmed the growth and brand vision of youth media publication CoolAccidents.com (now Blare Music). She also curated playlists at YouTube Music and LiSTNR as part of their AUNZ music editorial teams.

“As an Indian-born woman of colour who has grown up in Singapore, New Zealand, and Australia, I believe I have the necessary skills and lived experience needed to lead a real change in the Australian music industry, to truly make it one that is equitable, safe for all gender and racial identities and harassment-free,” she said at the time.

“Like many women of colour, I have always been a quiet achiever who struggles with imposter syndrome – a key reason many of us find it difficult to rise up the ranks in their chosen industry. However, Australian music needs more racial diversity in upper management and in decision-making roles, so finally cracking this glass ceiling would be the utmost mark of professional success to me.

“I would foster a workplace where everyone felt equal and heard; work-life balance was paramount; there were opportunities for development for all staff but especially for any minority staff; and efficient, passionate workers were recognised and valued for their hard work, instead of pushed towards burnout.”

The news comes ahead of Impressed’s SXSW Sydney party today at the Lord Gladstone. Click here for more details.
