Diddy Stares Down Mid-2028 Prison Release Date As Pardon Hopes Fizzle

With his hopes of a pardon dashed, Sean “Diddy” Combs is likely to be released from prison in mid-2028, according to federal inmate records.

Diddy’s release date from prison has been revealed, according to federal inmate records with the Bureau of Prisons. The 55-year-old producer and music mogul will be released on May 8, 2028.

Currently, Sean “Diddy” Combs is incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, but he may be transferred to a different location at some point during his 50-month sentence. In addition to his sentence, Combs was fined $500,000.

The 2028 date reflects his time already served. Combs has been in federal custody since his arrest in September 2024. It also takes into account the Bureau of Prisons’ First Step Act, which allows federal inmates to earn “good time credit” for each year of their sentence. Inmates can potentially serve only 85% of their sentence by accruing such credit for good behavior.

However, he could be out sooner if President Trump commuted his sentence—though a White House official has said it’s not something he’s considering. Trump confirmed earlier this month that Combs had requested a pardon, but the president didn’t seem particularly keen on granting one.

Combs was the subject of a highly publicized months-long trial earlier this year over allegations of racketeering, sex trafficking, and prostitution charges. He was sentenced to four years and two months on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution under the Mann Act, but was acquitted of the more serious charges.

Had he been convicted of the more severe charges, Diddy could have been facing a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison—and prosecutors had argued that he should spend at least 11 years behind bars. Ultimately, he faces a sentence at the lower end of the scale, although his defense team was calling for his almost immediate release due to time already served.
