Paul Stanley Admits He’s Outgrown Some Kiss Lyrics

Paul Stanley admits that he’s outgrown some of the more risque lyrics he wrote when he was younger.

During Kiss‘ Q&A session Sunday night at the Kiss Kruise: Land-Locked in Las Vegas, moderator Chris Jericho thanked the band for including the Rock and Roll Over deep cut “Take Me” in the set list of their Saturday night show.

“It’s really funny because some of our songs are not really age-appropriate anymore,” Stanley replied before referencing that track’s opening couplet. “I couldn’t imagine writing a song today {with lyrics like] ‘Put your hand in my pocket, grab onto my rocket.’ Nice place to visit, but I wouldn’t want to live there.”

Stanley’s longtime bandmate Gene Simmons didn’t seem as concerned about the issue, offering up a boisterous rendition of a line from 1984’s charmingly titled “Burn Bitch Burn”: “I’m gonna put my log in your fireplace.”

Drummer Eric Singer could only marvel: “Gene, you’re like a modern-day Socrates.”

“I don’t care. I love me,” was the Demon’s response.

Paul Stanley Speaks Out Against ‘Deep Cuts’

The inclusion of songs such as “Take Me,” “Love Her All I Can” and “Got to Choose” in Kiss’ Saturday night set was particularly surprising since earlier in the day Stanley had spoken out against “deep cuts.”

“I once went to see a very, very big band, and what they were advertising for this particular show was [that] they were going to play all deep cuts,” Stanley explained during a cooking class he hosted as part of the Las Vegas event. “It was the most boring fucking thing I’d ever seen in my life. Honestly, the reason cuts are deep is because they’re not popular, and they’re not as good.”
