Amid the AI-generated content boom, TikTok releases settings to let users choose how much AI content they see in their For You feed.

With the rise of AI-generated content all but avoidable online, TikTok is launching a new setting to allow users to choose how much AI-generated content they want to see in their For You feed. TikTok is also introducing more advanced labeling processes to identify AI-generated content. The new feature is rolling out within TikTok’s Manage Topics tool, where users can choose what they see on the platform.

“Manage Topics already enables people to adjust how often they see content related to over 10 categories like Dance, Sports, and Food & Drinks,” reads TikTok’s blog post. “Like those controls, the AI-generated content (AIGC) setting is intended to help people tailor the diverse range of content in their feed, rather than removing or replacing content in feeds entirely.”

Notably, TikTok’s move comes as companies like Meta are going all-in on AI-only feeds. Meta released a new feed in September called Vibes, designed for sharing and creating short AI-generated videos. That release was closely followed by OpenAI’s launch of Sora, a platform for creating and sharing AI-generated videos.

In the two months since, increasingly realistic AI-generated videos have exploded in popularity online, being posted to platforms like TikTok and Instagram. TikTok says that with the new AI-generated content control, users who want to see less of this content now have the power to dial it down. At the same time, those who want more of this sort of content can opt to see more of it.

The functionality is rolling out “in the coming weeks,” according to TikTok. Once available, users can access the feature by going to Settings > Content Preferences > Manage Topics. From there, you can move the slider for different topics, including AI-generated content, to adjust how much of it you want to see in your feed.

TikTok is also adding invisible watermarks to AI-generated content created with TikTok tools like AI Editor Pro, and content uploaded with C2PA’s Content Credentials. Those watermarks, the company hopes, will help it label content more reliably.

In a related move, TikTok also announced the launch of the $2 million AI Literacy Fund. This is aimed at experts like the Girls Who Code nonprofit to create content that teaches people AI literacy and safety as the AI landscape continues to evolve.
