Parkway Drive Release Statement On Park Waves Cancellation: “It Hurts”

Parkway Drive have spoken out following the shock cancellation of their inaugural Park Waves Festival in Australia, issuing an emotional statement that lays bare just how heavy the decision has hit the band.

“This is a message we never imagined we’d have to write, and it weighs heavily on us,” the band wrote. “Park Waves Australia has been cancelled. Just writing this feels like a kick in the guts… another festival being crushed by the rising costs across our entertainment industry. It hurts to be another casualty in this chapter of the Australian music scene.”

The regional travelling festival – set to bring Parkway Drive, The Amity Affliction, Northlane, Alpha Wolf and Story Of The Year to 11 cities under a giant circus-style big top – was officially scrapped this week by promoters Destroy All Lines, who cited financial pressures and said “the numbers no longer stack up”.

Now, Parkway themselves have confirmed they fought tooth and nail to keep the event afloat.

“We’ve tried every possible option to keep this dream alive,” they said. “But the reality of the circumstances won’t allow for it.”

In their message, the band also expressed gratitude to the fans who had already snapped up tickets and rallied behind the concept from day one.

“To everyone who bought tickets, and to everyone who continues to support live music in this country: thank you. Please know that your support is what keeps this culture alive and standing strong through the worst of times.”

All tickets for Park Waves will be fully refunded, with ticketholders contacted directly via email.

The cancellation marks another major blow for Australia’s festival landscape – and for Parkway Drive, who dreamed up Park Waves as a homegrown, one-of-a-kind experience after debuting the concept in Germany last year.

For now, both fans and organisers walk away gutted – but united – in a moment that reflects just how precarious the Australian touring landscape has become.
