dexter’s ‘Paper Cup’ Is A Soothing New Bop
South West London riser dexter has shared her new single ‘Paper Cup’.
Out now on Common Knowledge via AWAL, it follows a string of super releases, sketching out a unique, profoundly independent voice.
A soothing bop, her DIY production skills lend ‘Paper Cup’ a pleasingly individual feel, with dexter embracing her eccentricities.
Neatly melodic, ‘Paper Cup’ is actually about learning to disassociate from your worries.
dexter explains..
“‘Paper Cup’ is about me feeling overwhelmed by my thoughts and how that can often stop me from doing the simplest of things, for example just getting a cup of water to drink, that’s why it’s called paper cup. I would’ve just sung ‘cup’ but it sounded better with paper. I also really wanted to make a song that was kind of dancey as I don’t really have any like that, something that has a more fast paced vibe to it and that’s different to what I have done before.”
dexter will play a special live show at Off The Cuff in Herne Hill, London on November 26th.
