Yonder Mountain String Band Re-Release Seminal 2nd Album ‘Town by Town’ For 20th Anniversary

Just a few weeks ahead of their 2021 Fall Tour, Sept. 27, 2021, marked two decades since the release of the acclaimed Colorado bluegrass luminaries Yonder Mountain String Band’s 2nd studio album Town by Town. To celebrate, Yonder Mountain Sring band has decided to rerelease the modern classic on 180g double vinyl.

Town by Town was released on Yonder Mountain String Band’s independent label Frog Pad Records and features founding members Adam Aijala, Dave Johnston, Ben Kaufmann, and Jeff Austin, along with album producer Tim O’Brien who lends his skill on fiddle and bouzouki.

“Wow, 20 years have gone by since I dove in with Yonder for a new recording,” said O’Brien in a press release. “It’s a good thing to look back and see what we did and what happened since.”

Since its releaseTown by Town has indeed been majorly influential. Billy String has often slid “Sorrow Is A Highway” into his live sets, Greensky Bluegrass cover “Peace of Mind” during their shows. the up and coming group, The Kitchen Dwellers, cover “New Horizons.”

“They were excited and determined and open-minded. I pushed them some, they pushed me some, and we both learned a lot,” remembered producer O’Brien. “At that time, Yonder was exploding on the scene, gathering new fans like a wet snowball rolling down a black diamond slope. I doubt they knew they were carving out their own legacy. I was honored to be there with them.” 

Town by Town is available for pre-order and will be arriving at Yonder Mountain String Band’s merch table on the road and online on Nov. 20, 2021.
