The New Riders of the Purple Sage Release Vintage Recording Featuring Jerry Garcia
The New Riders of the Purple Sage have recently released a vintage clip of “School Days” as part of their official archival YouTube series. Recorded at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom on December 15, 1973, the clip features early member Jerry Garcia playing a Telecaster.
The performance took place during the second show of a two-night run at the Winterland, boasting opening acts Jesse Colin Young and Linda Ronstadt. It also marked bassist Dave Torbert’s last show with the Riders. The ensemble had just completed an East Coast tour, which is documented on the Garcia-produced live LP, Home, Home On The Road album.
