Travis Scott’s ‘Sold Out’ Tour Still Has Vast Amounts of Tickets Available

Live Nation has touted the new Travis Scott ‘Utopia—Circus Maximus Tour’ as a sold out phenomenon—but tickets remain widely available at most dates.
Travis Scott kicked off his most recent tour on October 11 in Charlotte, North Carolina at the Spectrum Arena. The 39-date tour has back-to-back dates headed across the United States, but a cursory glance at ticket availability on Ticketmaster showcases a different story entirely.
Ticket prices for the show on October 18 in Dallas, TX could be had for as little as $56 direct from Ticketmaster. Curious about dates closer to home, I examined the upcoming November 12 date at the Moda Center in Portland, OR. Even that date has plenty of general admission seats direct from Ticketmaster available for purchase, though most of the nosebleed section seats are only available through its ‘Verified Resale’ program.

The Portland, OR date is one of the dates with the least availability—examining future dates for cities like Austin, Tulsa, Miami, and Baltimore reveals massive openings that could hardly be described as ‘sold out’ if we’re being honest with how we use words to describe things. ‘Sold out’* through our verified fan resale program means “we’ve sold the tickets to resellers who will pass the jacked up prices on to you!” — i.e., not exactly the vibe most concert goers want to experience during the ticket buying process.
Ticketmaster and Live Nation seem poised to take advantage of younger generations who report valuing experiences over owning property or saving for retirement.
A report from June 2023 by credit reporting firm Experian reveals that 63% of Gen Z and 59% of millennials say they would rather spend their money on life experiences like travel and concerts than save up for their retirement. Those concert experiences like the Taylor Swift Eras Tour and Beyonce’s Renaissance tour are racking up big bucks—not sure where this sold out* tour will end up on the top-grossing tour list of 2023.
The Travis Scott ‘Utopia—Circus Maximus Tour’ wraps up on December 29 with plenty of availability for dates from now through then.
