Episode 117 of The JamBase Podcast, a partner of the Osiris Media Network, features the return of Scott Metzger. JamBase’s Scott Bernstein connected with the guitarist to discuss his recently released debut solo album, Too Close To Reason, among other topics.
Metzger, who previously told ScottyB “Tour Stories” during a 2018 appearance on The JamBase Podcast, spoke with Bernstein back in January remotely from his home in Brooklyn. The pair started the conversation by discussing the early days of the pandemic, including the first conference call in Joe Russo’s Almost Dead history and precautions the band took in returning to the stage at Westville Music Bowl in New Haven, Connecticut and pulling off dozens of gigs in 2021.
The guitarist then recalled the genesis of Too Close To Reason, which he described as “150 percent” a pandemic album. Metzger talked about how he used the opportunity the time off the road afforded him to finally write and record a solo album. Scott bought a guitar shortly after the pandemic began and he explained how the compositions he wrote for the LP came to him fairly quickly.
Scott Metzger also weighed in on the recording process, his recent wedding to wife and fellow musician Katie Jacoby and how he came up some of the titles for the 12 instrumentals featured on Too Close To Reason. The guitarist will bring Too Close To Reason on the road for a series of solo concerts in the Northeast starting on March 30 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Metzger revealed what fans can expect as he brings the album’s dense compositions to the stage. Other topics hit upon were working with Jacoby, seeing Katie perform live with The Who, coming up on 10 years since the first JRAD concert and much more.
