Listen: Taylor Swift Unveil’s ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’

In the latest effort to reclaim her work and personalize past deliveries, Taylor Swift unveiled 1989 (Taylor’s Version), re-recorded material from her fifth studio album. The project was announced on August 9, at the final stop of her Eras Tour in Los Angeles, and is in part a response to the artist’s 2019 master dispute with her former record label. 

The 21-track collection features 16 songs from the LP’s deluxe edition and five previously unreleased “From the Vault” tracks. Included on the tracking list are hits like “Shake It,” “Blank Space,” and “Bad Blood,” as well as others. Produced by Swift, Jack Antonoff and Christopher Rowe, the newly released set plucks tracks from the initial 2014 release and reinvigorates them to reflect her own preferences. 

1989 is the latest drop in a series of re-releases that began with Fearless (Taylor’s Version) in 2021, followed by Red (Taylor’s Version), Red (Taylor’s Version), and Speak Now (Taylor’s Version). The latter was shared in July 2023 to acclaim for the pop star’s ability to meld emotion with passionate vocals.
