Listen: Jacob Collier Taps Lawernce Siblings and Michael McDonald for “Wherever I Go”

Today, Jacob Collier dropped the latest taste of Djesse Vol. 4–set to release on Feb. 29th via Hajanga/Decca/Interscope–titled “Wherever I Go.” The musical offering taps the sibling duo of Clyde Lawrence and Gracie Lawrence of Lawrence, who infuse their soulful pop harmonies with Collier’s distinct artistry. Together, they craft a captivating blend reminiscent of Michael McDonald, weaving harmonious melodies with intricate lyrics and rhythmic grooves.

The connection to Michael McDonald is so apparent on the song–which follows “WELLLL” and the previously released “Never Gonna Be Alone,” featuring Lizzy McAlpine and John Mayer–that Collier later enlisted the Doobie Brothers legend to lend his voice to the track. Harmonious synergy, a shared strength of Collier and Lawrence, permeates the composition, interwoven with lively horns, impressive basslines, and a piano progression dripping with Doobie Brothers style.

McDonald expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, recognizing Collier as one of contemporary music’s most innovative artists. He conveyed his excitement at being invited to contribute to the recording of Collier’s original song, praising Jacob’s unique talent and relishing the opportunity to perform with the Lawrence siblings.

Since the inception of the Djesse series five years ago, Collier has earned three Grammy Awards and received six nominations, including a nod for Album of the Year for 2020’s Djesse Vol. 3. This achievement constitutes more than half of his total five Grammy victories and 11 nominations.

In addition to this exciting release, Collier has announced a 31-date tour for 2024, marking his most extensive tour to date, with performances at renowned venues across North America. Simultaneously, Lawrence also will embark on a major tour, opening for The Jonas Brothers at prominent stadiums nationwide. Meanwhile, McDonald continues to tour with The Doobie Brothers as the band celebrates its 50th anniversary.
