A Concert For Altadena Unites Dawes with Stephen Stills, Eric Krasno and More
Last night, A Concert for Altadena took place at the Pasadena Civic Center in Pasadena, Calif. The charity event was built around music performed by Dawes & Friends and served as a response to the 2025 Eaton Fire, which caused widespread devastation in Altadena, Calif., leveling homes, businesses, and a way of life for residents of the Los Angeles County community. The performance buzzed from start to finish through the arrival of top-tier talent: Stephen Stills, Eric Krasno, The Killers’ Brandon Flowers, Judith Hill, Lucius, and more, performing classics and at times odes to the community.
Musically, the night was led by brothers and core members of Dawes, Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith, who opened with a love letter to their hometown on “I Love L.A.” The Randy Newman original was recorded by the pair last year in response to the fires and performed during the 67th Annual Grammy Awards. Joining the brothers for last night’s initial song were Brad Paisley and Krasno, the latter of whom stuck around for some nostalgia-fueled performance of “All Your Favorite Bands,” which also included Lucius.
The tone shifted with the arrival of Jimi Hendrix’s “Voodoo Child,” led by Krasno. Next, Jenny Lewis took on her own “Rise Up With Fists!!,” before passing the proverbial baton to Hill, who proceeded with “Cry, Cry, Cry.” Mandy Moore’s “Candy” was followed by Aloe Blacc and Krasno’s take on “Wake Me Up.” A high point of the night came with Stills’ renditions of classics, “For What It’s Worth” and “Love the One You’re With.”
Paisley and Dawes gave weight to “Raining Inside,” their joint 2025 track, ahead of a pair of classics, The Beatles’ “Across the Universe,” with Rufus Wainwright, followed by The Kinks’ “Strangers,” featuring Lord Huron. Lucius performed their Good Grief track, “Dusty Trails,” before a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Shine On You Crazy Diamond.” Later in the night, Flowers led “When You Were Young,” ahead of Bruce Springsteen’s “The Promised Land.”
Before capping the night of giveback and music, Dawes, along with Krasno and Lucius, played fan favorite “When My Time Comes,” and then welcomed all participants out for a communal cover of “With a Little Help From My Friends.”
Last night’s event raised financial support for the Altadena Builds Back Foundation, which, according to the fund profile, “is helping lead the charge of rebuilding residential Altadena, the community hit hardest by the Eaton Fire.” Learn more and donate here.
