Alesso is back to seamlessly blending his house roots with radio-angled pop alongside yet another massive voice in the latter space, Zara Larsson. “Words” was teased on the former’s TikTok just a couple weeks prior to its official release when Alesso posed a simple question—”guess my next feature in the comments”—as part of an ongoing TikTok trend that concealed the identity of his newest collaborator. However, Larsson’s fanbase on Twitter was quick to notice that the bracelets she wore in the fleeting seconds of the video were the same as those that she’d donned in an Instagram story posted around the same time. And thus, the all-Swede mega-collaboration was born. “Words” nestles in with “When I’m Gone” with Katy Perry as Alesso’s latest foray into the world of house-pop as its catchy melody plays over welcome darker house chords in a cut that will satisfy newer and more established Alesso fans alike.
“Words” comes less than a month removed from Alesso’s previous release, “Only You” with Sentinel, which was a progressive house instant-classic worthy of mention alongside similar golden age era counterparts. Alesso’s recent track record once more points to him lengthening his trend of moving back and forth between club-ready hits like “Somebody To Use” and more radio-friendly plays like his latest output. And with two nights at the Brooklyn Mirage at the beginning of May, we can only hope that “Rave All Night”—one of our most-needed IDs of 2022—will be the single that carries that pattern on next.
Alesso was also recently announced as support on select European dates, including Paris and Madrid, for Swedish House Mafia‘s upcoming Paradise Again world tour. It’s a move that was teased during the latter’s Spotify-hosted album release party on April 15, where Alesso joined his fellow Swedish house brothers on stage. While we figure out logistics to get to one of those glorious tour dates, view the music video for “Words” below.
