Amayo Announces Upcoming Performance at City Winery Atlanta

Duke Amayo has shared he will perform under a new alias beginning Jan. 23 at City Winery Atlanta, in what is being called ‘Amayo Presents Afro-Soul Sunday.’

The former frontman of Antibalas made the announcement on Facebook, “Excited to announce my first official show as #AMAYO (which means, “If you don’t go, you never know”) So Atlanta, come through to @citywineryatl I’ve got some incredible special guests, including one of Fela’s original drummers, JoJo Kuo! Tix at the link in bio.” 

The show is being described as an opportunity to “lose yourself to the unique groves of Soul FU-Afrobeat music – where Kung Fu and Dance Meets Afrobeat and Folklore!” according to City Winery Atlanta. 

News of Amayos’s upcoming performance follows November’s announcement that he had left Antibalas after 20 years to focus on his solo career. Amayo performed with Antibalas on Sept. 18 at Central Park Summer Stage in New York City for the last time.
