Bassist Jimbo Hart Officially Departs From 400 Unit After Extended Hiatus

Today, bassist Jimbo Hart announced on Twitter/ X he is no longer a member of Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit. The Alabama native had taken time off earlier in the year to work on his mental health, performing with the group for the last time in May. 

The formal note was shared today and presented: “I’m no longer a member of the 400 Unit. I’m grateful for all the years, all the faces I’ve played for in the course of the band’s history and proud of all we accomplished. I’m happy to be moving forward into a new chapter of life and open to all possibilities, as they may arise.”

Prior to today’s announcement, Hart initially alluded to the shift in June, “I’m taking some time to take care of my mental health and resolve some old-school traumas.” Hart also thanked Isbell and the rest of the band for supporting him on his leave. In the meantime, the band tapped Anna Butterss on bass in Hart’s spot. 

On Sept. 24, Hart posted to Twitter/ X that he felt “the best (he’s) ever been” and appreciated the kind words and thoughts coming his way. Since Isbell broke away from Drive-By Truckers, Hart has been a part of many of the projects the bandleaders took part in, most recently adding to 2023’s Weathervanes.
