Billie Eilish Beats Sabrina Carpenter for Most-Streamed Song in 2024
Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” flies past Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” for the top slot on Spotify’s most-streamed songs list in 2024.
Spotify has announced Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” ended 2024 atop the streaming platform’s most-streamed songs of the year list, with 1,775,172,881 listens. The track flew past Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” by about 650,000 streams. Carpenter’s summer anthem ended the year with 1,774,525,704 listens on the streaming platform.
Since its release last May, “Birds of a Feather” has been a smash hit for the 23-year-old Eilish, having reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song is also enjoying its 21st week atop the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. It’s nominated for three awards at the Grammy Awards on February 2, including Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance.
The release on which it appears, Hit Me Hard and Soft, is Eilish’s third album, nominated for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album at the Grammys. Its lead single, “Lunch,” is up for Best Music Video, while “L’Amour de Ma Vie [Over Now Extended Version]” is up for Best Pop Dance Recording. Billie Eilish has been nominated for 32 Grammys, and has thus far won nine, including two for Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
Eilish’s brother, co-writer, and producer, 27-year-old Finneas, has himself won 10 Grammys out of 17 nominations. He’s the youngest person ever to be named Producer of the Year at 22 years old. In addition to his work with his sister, Finneas recently composed music for the Apple TV+ series Disclaimer. He said working on that project with Atacca Quartet inspired him while working with Eilish on her latest album.
“I would work on Disclaimer right before Billie would come over every day [to work on Hit Me Hard and Soft], then she’d leave, and I’d work on it again,” Finneas told The Hollywood Reporter. “And so I really credit Disclaimer for being the reason that there is a string overture in that album.”
Following the release of Hit Me Hard and Soft, Billie Eilish spent the latter half of the year on her headlining tour, which started in Canada and made its way through the United States. During the tour finale, a five-night stand at Inglewood, CA’s Kia Forum, Eilish brought fans some holiday joy with a rendition of “O Holy Night.” She admitted to the crowd, “I’m not really religious. I just love Christmas so much. I also grew up in a choir, so that’s just my schtick.”
