Billy Martin “Spills The Beans” on New Medeski Martin & Wood LP, Issues Reminder for Benefit Concert at Brooklyn Bowl New York

Billy Martin has issued a reminder and shared an update on his work with Medeski, Martin & Wood.

The jazz-informed percussionist will support his charity of choice, Creative Music Studio (CMS), this Sunday, October 5, at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl location. The night has been labeled “Jer’s Garage” and will consist of two sets of music, celebrating the songs of Zappa-Morricone, as well as the Grateful Dead. Besides the imminent event, he also shared an update on Medeski, Martin & Wood’s latest record and its estimated release date.

Sunday’s event tracks more than five years of partnership between Martin and CMS, with this year’s gathering representing his final New York-based charity show. Set one is billed as the Tredici Bacci plays Zappa-Morricone, conceptually linking to the group’s zappICONe: Frank Zappa and Ennio Morricone LP. Led by Simon Hanes with Katie Goddard, Leia Slosberg, Tree Palmedo, Will Greene, Rahul Carlburg, Anna Fortuna, Anna Abondolo, Pete Moffet, and Martin. 

The second set will pull from the Grateful Dead’s songbook and material from the Zappa Band. Led by Erik Slick and featuring accompaniment from Danae Greenfield, Steven Bernstein, Jonathan Coleman, and other guest sit-ins. In addition to Martin’s status on the bill, special guest John Scofield will also contribute to the evening’s musical offering. 

“I am especially excited to play Agogo with Sco and the Tredici Bacci big band playing an exclusive musical arrangement (by Simon Hanes) specifically for this benefit with us,” Martin said of the impending evening. 

Creative Music Studios, “engages musicians and listeners from all backgrounds to deepen and broaden their musical sensitivity, expression and understanding through workshops, recordings and concerts worldwide.” 

Besides Sunday’s concert, Marin also “spilled the beans” on Medeski, Martin & Woods’ new record, telling us, “We (Medeski Martin & Wood) have just finished mixing and mastering our new record from the Not Not Jazz (doc. film) recording session, which was 7 years ago!”

“I have to say, it is, hands down, the best record we have made in decades,” he mused. “There is no release date yet, but I predict it will debut this upcoming Spring 2026.”
