Brooklyn Mirage parent company Avant Gardner files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after the venue failed to open for the season.

Avant Gardner, the company behind the Brooklyn Mirage, an outdoor music venue that failed to open for the season, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company says its two indoor venues, the Great Hall and the Kings Hall, will remain open during the bankruptcy process.

“The decision to file for Chapter 11 relief follows several months of financial distress, culminating with Avant Gardner being unable to open its newly constructed Mirage event space for the 2025 season,” reads a statement posted on Instagram. “Many of the Mirage shows are being moved to the Great Hall or otherwise relocated for the remainder of 2025.”

The Brooklyn Mirage postponed its grand opening three months ago after organizers said they had failed to meet an inspection deadline. Avant Gardner cancelled the first show with DJ Sara Landry just hours before it started on May 1 and promised ticket holders a full refund. The company ultimately brought in a new CEO, but the Mirage never managed to open its doors this year.

AGDP Holding, which owns Avant Gardner LLC, owed $155.3 million to various debtors at the time of filing for Chapter 11. The company will auction off its assets as it continues to operate. A primary lender has disbursed $45.8 million as part of a debtor-in-possession financing agreement. This money will also go towards a bid for the auctioned assets.

First opening in 2017 as a pop-up party, the Brooklyn Mirage later expanded to include indoor spaces in order to host big-name artists year-round. The venue was scheduled to reopen on May 1 this year after a significant remodel—but inspectors declined to grant the venue a permit, and it has remained closed.

“The Avant Gardner complex is a truly special music venue that has provided cutting-edge experiences over the years for artists and fans from all around the globe,” said CEO Gary Richards. “Everyone I speak to has had the best sets and very special memories at the Brooklyn Mirage.”
