Cardi B Faces a Lawsuit for Chucking a Mic at a Crowd Member In 2023

Cardi B is being sued for assault and battery by a woman she allegedly hit when she threw a microphone into the crowd in 2023.

An anonymous Jane Doe is suing Cardi B for the incident in Las Vegas in 2023 when she threw a microphone into the crowd, allegedly hitting the woman.

Cardi B was performing at Drai’s Beachclub when she asked people in the crowd to throw water on her to help her cool down in the triple-digit heat. But when one individual threw water at the rapper—as several others had done—she responded by angrily throwing the mic.

The incident was investigated at the time, but Cardi B was ultimately not charged. Shortly after the incident, the microphone was sold at auction by the audio production company that owned the equipment. The auction closed at nearly $100K, with the money reportedly going to two charities, the Wounded Warrior Project and Friendship Circle Las Vegas.

But the sale only “exacerbated [Jane Doe’s] emotional distress.” Now, she is “seeking justice in the hopes of holding Cardi B accountable for her misdeeds, as no celebrity is above the law,” her attorneys write. “What has been written off as a joke by many people is actually a traumatic experience that has significantly impacted the plaintiff’s well-being and quality of life.”

Meanwhile, attorneys for Cardi B have dubbed the lawsuit a “financial shakedown,” writing:

“The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Clark County District Attorney’s Office closed this matter for insufficient evidence a long time ago, but apparently the opportunity to try to make money off of a celebrity was too much for some willing law firm to pass up.”

Attorney Cierra N. Norris, who is representing Jane Doe, will hold a press conference on Thursday in Las Vegas. Her client is suing Cardi B for assault, battery, negligence, and more.
