Check Out Chappell Roan, Tate McRae and the Surprising List of Artists Who Hit Top Country Songs’ Top 10 for the First Time in 2025

Billboard’s Top Country Songs chart often showcases a wide range of artists, some of whom are deeply entrenched in the country format and others who are dipping their toes in country waters momentarily either as a solo act or as part of collaborations.
Over the past few years, pop and R&B artists including Beyoncé and Post Malone have landed on the chart, while country-leaning acts such as Zach Bryan, Kacey Musgraves and Oliver Anthony who don’t receive much terrestrial radio play have also found a welcome home on Top Country Songs.
Unlike the Country Airplay chart, which uses radio airplay impressions as its sole metric, Top Country Songs measures the week’s most popular country songs using three metrics: radio airplay audience impressions, sales data and streaming activity data, all tracked and compiled by Luminate. Also unlike the Country Airplay chart, tunes also often take up months-long residency at the top of the Top Country Songs chart: Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” spent 25 weeks at No 1 in 2023, while Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” logged 27 weeks at No. 1 in 2024 and continued at the top spot for another 18 weeks this year.
This year had a few surprising names, including a number of artists who aren’t usually associated with the country format — making it safe to say that Top Country Songs may be one of the most diverse tallies Billboard compiles.
Eight artists logged their first Top Country Songs Top 10 during Billboard’s charting year in 2025. They span several different genres, which shows just how attractive the country genre is to artists from other styles and how welcoming the genre is. (By contrast, only four acts registered their first Top 10 on the Country Airplay chart in 2025. That’s a sharp drop from 2024, when 17 artists had their first Top 10 on the chart — but that probably says more about how slowly the Country Airplay chart moves than radio having some unwillingness to add new artists this year.)
Below, in alphabetical order, is a list, compiled by Billboard charts data analyst Russ Penuell, of the artists who reached the top 10 on Billboard’s Top Country Songs chart for the first time in 2025:
-
Avery Anna, “Indigo”
Anna was billed as the “with” guest artist on this Sam Barber track, but it’s really an equal partnership, as the two drown in their misery in this tale of a failed relationship. It’s a brutally honest ballad and it resonated deeply — first with a viral following, before registering with a stable streaming audience. The piano tune was both artists’ first chart hit, and ultimately peaked at No. 8 on Top Country Songs.
-
BigXthaPlug, “All the Way”
Dallas rapper BigXthaPlug delved into country in a big way in 2025 with I Hope You’re Happy, a collaboration album that featured duets with Luke Combs, Jelly Roll, Ella Langley, Darius Rucker and others, including Bailey Zimmerman, who is the featured act on “All the Way”(he’s not on this list because he reached the top 10 of the Top Country Songs chart previously). BigX and Zimmerman took “All the Way” all the way to No. 1 on Top Country Songs in April, proving, once again, that heartbreak songs — and this one details a scorched earth of a break-up — are chart gold.
-
Chappell Roan, “The Giver”
If there’s anything we’ve learned from Chappell Roan in her short career it’s that she cannot be contained to just one genre. She surprised fans (well, actually everybody) when she debuted this flirty, sexually loaded country-pop tune on Saturday Night Live in late 2024, and then released the track in early 2025. By March, it had reached No. 1 on Top Country Songs, and has kept Roan fans guessing what direction she’ll head in next.
-
Hootie & The Blowfish, “Bottle Rockets”
You can be forgiven for wondering how it is possible for a band that’s been around more than 30 years to just be scoring its first Top 10 on Top Country Songs now, but it makes sense: Hootie are the featured act on Scotty McCreery’s big hit, “Bottle Rockets,” which features the band singing the hook of their 1994 smash “Hold My Hand” as part of the chorus. Both McCreery and Hootie’s lead singer Darius Rucker have landed plenty of Top 10s on Top Country Songs, so they aren’t included on the list, but “Bottle Rockets,” which peaked at No. 6, marks the first Top 10 for the band as a whole.
-
Lil Wayne, “Miami”
Lil Wayne joined country kingpin Morgan Wallen on this remix of “Miami,” a trap-infused track on Wallen’s chart-topping I’m The Problem album. Wallen grew up on rap and has been heavily influenced by the genre, so it felt natural to have Weezy add a smooth, easy-going verse. Lil Wayne has fun namedropping Chicago Bears great Refrigerator Perry, while also referencing Rick Ross, who additionally lends his vocals as a guest.
-
Rick Ross, “Miami”
Following Lil Wayne’s laconic verse on the Morgan Wallen album track, Ross follows up with a rap that salutes Miami and the “swimsuits on South Beach,” but also references the brevity of life and how it “really hurt when my dad pass.” In addition to all their previous chart plaudits, both Lil Wayne and Ross can add a Top Country Songs hit — the song peaked at No. 5 — to their list of achievements.
-
Sam Barber, “Indigo”
Barber introduced himself to the world with “Indigo,” and showed even at a young age — he’s now 22 — he had surprising depth and something to say. Barber and Avery Anna co-wrote the song, featured on Barber’s full-length debut, Atlantic album Restless Mind, with Andy Sheridan and it immediately established him as an act to watch. Barber and Anna also duet on the title track.
-
Tate McRae, “What I Want”
Lots of roads lead back to Morgan Wallen on this list, as pop diva McRae and Wallen took their wistful duet, “What I Want” not only to the top of Top Country Songs, but to the top of Billboard’s Hot 100 chart as well. On Wallen’s first co-ed duet, the pair come into a short-lived relationship with their broken hearts, hoping for a brief respite from the ache, but with a pre-destined plan to split before the entanglement becomes too much… or not.
