The NSW State Government has announced it has raised the cap on concerts held at Sydney’s Centennial Park.

The park, situated in the inner-east of Sydney, will now be able to hold twelve concerts a year. It is the current home of Laneway Festival, including the 2026 event, and previously hosted Good Things Festival.

“Centennial has a proud history of hosting blockbusting performances like Bob Dylan, James Brown, INXS, Flume, Tame Impala, and of course Charli XCX, so this change makes perfect sense to make the most of this fantastic venue,” Premier Chris Minns said in a statement on Wednesday (October 8th).

“Lifting yet another restriction on fun is part of our agenda to restore Sydney back to its 2000 Olympics heyday, where our events and nightlife were the envy of the world.

“It’s a sensible decision, and we can’t wait to see what world-class acts we attract as a result.”

Other previous events held at Centennial Park include Listen Out festival and Knotfest.

The news comes ahead of Laneway Festival’s 21st event in 2026, which will be headlined by US superstar, Chappell Roan.

Last month, festival organisers announced that, for the second year in a row — and for just the second time in Laneway history — the Sydney and Melbourne dates have sold out on the first day of general sale.

Laneway Festival co-founders Danny Rogers and Jerome Borazio said: “We are so grateful to see this level of excitement for our 21st birthday year. It is a testament to both the lineup and the passion of Laneway fans, which we never take for granted. We can’t wait to celebrate together this summer.”

Also confirmed on the 2026 bill includes Role Model, PinkPantheress, Wet Leg, BENEE, Gigi Perez, Wolf Alice, and Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers.

2025 was Laneway’s biggest year yet, drawing over 200,000 fans to sold-out shows across Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth, with an additional 40,000 at sideshows.
