Daniel Johns Announces First Live Appearances In Five Years With ‘In Conversation’ Tour Dates

Daniel Johns is stepping back into the spotlight this November with Daniel Johns In Conversation: What If The Future Never Happened? – four intimate nights of storytelling, film and music across Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and his hometown of Newcastle.

The shows will centre on the worldwide premiere of Johns’ long-awaited short film What If The Future Never Happened?, directed by James Medlam, with each screening framed by a rare onstage conversation. Fans will hear the Silverchair frontman share unseen photos, unreleased recordings and personal demos – from embryonic Neon Ballroom sketches to the original session for ‘Straight Lines’. Johns will also play solo material, side-project rarities and fresh, unreleased ideas, making every night a one-off experience.

“This will be like turning theatres into giant living rooms,” Johns says. “I’ll be telling stories, playing songs that nobody has heard, and sharing random ideas that couldn’t be realised or released. Basically, I’m doing it anyway – you’re all invited.”

The featurette itself – shot in Newcastle and originally teased back in 2022 – is a semi-autobiographical sci-fi trip through the ‘90s, mixing fact and fantasy with orchestral reinterpretations of Silverchair classics. Its release also marks 30 years since frogstomp exploded onto the world stage.

With six #1 albums, multiple ARIAs and a career built on reinvention, Johns remains one of Australia’s most decorated and enigmatic songwriters. This will be his first time appearing on stage in more than five years, with fans also invited to submit questions ahead of each event.
