Dave and Violet Grohl Assist David Bowie Keyboardist Mike Garson on Covers in Los Angeles

On Saturday, Mike Garson performed at The Sun in Los Angeles, welcoming Dave Grohl and his daughter Violet as special guests. Garson, who formerly played piano for David Bowie, delivered a plethora of covers alongside the father-daughter duo, including well-admired hits from several popular musical artists.

With Garson and his band’s accompaniment, Violet Grohl added to renditions of favored Bowie tunes off of the glam-rock studio album Aladdin Sane, including the track of the same name, “Aladdin Sane,” and “Lady Grinning Soul.” Violet Grohl also took the lead on Bowie’s “Where Are We Now?,” “Life On Mars?” and “The Man Who Sold the World,” a song originally by Bowie, yet performed by Nirvana.

After Violet’s lead vocals on Bowie’s songs, her father joined her onstage for covers from his extensive catalog. Together, the pair performed their take on Nirvana’s “Heart Shaped Box,” with Dave on drums, and duetted Foo Fighters’ “Show Me How,” a tune that appears on the grunge-rock band’s most recent album, But Here We Are.
