David McCormack – better known as the frontman of Custard, and best known as Bluey patriarch Bandit – has announced a new album with his long-serving backing band, The Polaroids. A Complete History Of Recorded Music marks McCormack’s fourth album with The Polaroids and his sixth full-length solo endeavour away from Custard overall. It is set for release on Friday, October 17th.

To coincide with the album’s announcement, McCormack has shared its lead single ‘Slow Jam’. Its music video was made by longtime friend and collaborator Brent Griffin, better known under the moniker of Spod. “Had a nice time smashing this one up, creating a little story of a man’s journey in learning to love himself,” said Griffin in a statement. “Very obvious when you watch it – which you should.” The music video can be viewed below.

McCormack and The Polaroids recorded A Complete History Of Recorded Music across two days in May 2025 at Sydney’s Hercules Studios with producer Wayne Connolly. The Polaroids, for this recording, included Youth Group and The Vines bassist Patrick Matthews, longtime Paul Kelly keyboardist Cameron Bruce, Died Pretty drummer Shane Melder and The Barbarellas’ Matt Galvin on lead guitar. Press materials for the new album have described it as “an audacious endeavor to distill the essence of popular music’s sprawling narrative into a singular, cohesive work”.

“Through a deliberate curation of sonic vignettes, McCormack navigates listeners through an expansive chronology of popular music, adeptly weaving together disparate threads of influence and innovation,” it reads. “Each track [is] a tableau, painstakingly crafted to evoke the distinctive zeitgeist of its respective era, from the nascent rumblings of rock ‘n’ roll to the contemporary avant-garde.”

The announcement of A Complete History Of Recorded Music comes just days after it was confirmed that McCormack would feature in the first-ever Bluey film. Written and directed by the show’s creator Joe Brumm, the as-yet-untitled film will also co-star voice actor Melanie Zanetti as Bandit’s wife and Bluey’s mum, Chilli. The film is slated for release on August 5th, 2027.

McCormack and the full Polaroids band will launch the album with a free show at Mixtape Brewing & Bar, a micro-brewery located in Marrickville in the inner-west of Sydney. The launch show will take place on Friday, October 24th – a week after the release of the album.

A Complete History Of Recorded Music can be pre-ordered physically and digitally on Bandcamp.
