Del McCoury Announces New Album ‘Almost Proud,’ Shares Single “Running Wild”
Del McCoury announced he will be releasing a new album titled Almost Proud on Feb. 18. The 82-year-old has released scores upon scores of albums over his career which has spanned six decades. His latest offering is set to reflect his life and iconic persona.
Almost Proud is a reflection of McCoury’s blue-collar mindset. The album is comprised of four songs about love lost, one love song which is as a tribute to his wife of 57 years, Jean, two tracks about cheating, two drinking songs, one extolling the virtues of hard work, and the other about a working-class hero standing up to big coal in the West Virginia of the early 1900s.
Of the album, McCoury said in a press release, “If I’m not interested, how can he expect the audience to be?” This collection of songs kept 82-year-old McCoury engaged during the pandemic and it’s part of a body of work that ended up being nearly 30 songs—so it’s likely to see a volume 2 in the very near future. At the end of the day, Del may be almost proud of what he’s accomplished, but he’s always proud of the music he records.”
Along with the announcement of the album’s release, McCoury shared a cut off Almost Proud titled “Running Wild.” The track was 15 years in the making and features McCoury’s longtime band which consists of his sons Ronnie McCoury on mandolin and Rob McCoury on banjo, bassist Alan Bartram and fiddler Jason Carter.
