Drugdealer has shared the new studio single “The News.” Michael Collins’ latest release was created with longtime friend and first-time collaborator Robbie Chemical, the Brooklyn-based artist, producer and Gary’s Electric Studio engineer with whom he reconnected while in Spain; natural harmony and freely-flowing conversations about change and connection led the artists to the radiant, jangly and off-kilter slice of neo-psychedelia. Hazy, lovelorn pleas to “hang on to what you love” perfectly suit Collins’ recent slant towards rich vintage pop.

On both streaming platforms and a newly announced 7” pressing, “The News” is a B-side to “Real Thing,” Drugdealer’s collaboration with Weyes Blood, released in May. Collins and Natalie Mering have proven to be like-minded musical pioneers since they first joined forces on the former’s 2016 single “Suddenly,” and their most recent joint effort is glitzier than ever before. Over a warm, easygoing and subtly funky backing, brightened by a tight fervor of strings and a mighty smooth saxophone breakdown, Mering unfurls a story of lucky love and chimes like the ‘70s Coke jingle when she hits the title line. “Natalie took the wheel and really wrote such amazing lyrics and harmonies as usual,” Collins said in a statement.

“The News” is available on all streaming platforms now. Pre-order the 7”, limited to 700 units, via Mexican Summer.
