On Saturday, Eggy and Real Estate finished their Hell Froze Over co-headlining run at Portland, ME’s State Theatre. Eggy closed the show and, after hearing the news of Bob Weir’s passing, paid tribute to the Grateful Dead co-founder with a few well-placed covers.

At the end of their main set, the Connecticut-bred group busted into a cover of the Weir classic “Cassidy,” the closing number on his 1972 solo debut, Ace. Eggy has been performing the tune since their early days, first covering it in 2016 and most recently playing the number this past September. The members of Eggy then left the stage for their encore break and returned with Real Estate’s Alex Bleeker and James Richardson, the longtime MGMT band member who has been playing guitar with the New Jersey-rooted Real Estate since last fall, for a cover of another Ace favorite, “One More Saturday Night.” Both Bleeker and Richardson played guitar on the Saturday-night favorite, which Eggy began performing in 2024 after sharing a co-bill with Dogs in a Pile at Port Chester, NY’s Capitol Theatre. Bleeker, who also performs in Taper’s Choice, is a member of the West Marin Grateful Dead Appreciation Society tribute band and was the band leader for Relix’s Brooklyn is Dead celebration.

Eggy will appear next at Deerfield, MA’s Tree House Brewing Company for their annual shows on January 16 and 17 while Real Estate will begin the next leg of their tour celebrating the 2014 album Atlas at Pittsburgh, PA’s Mr. Smalls this evening.
