Eggy Make Headlining Debut at Toad’s Place

Last night, Eggy made their headlining debut at New Haven, CT’s storied Toad’s Place. The members of Eggy all hail from nearby towns in Connecticut and the club holds a special significance for the rising band both personally and professionally: Not only did they individually attend seminal shows at Toad’s Place while growing up in the Constitution State but the first time that the group’s founding lineup publicly performed as Eggy was a Feb. 23, 2013, gig at the venue opening for Shakedown.

Eggy kicked off yesterday’s two-set concert with a run from “Sweaters for Strawmen” into “A Moment’s Notice,” songs that were debuted in 2021 and 2023 respectively, and preceded to mark their first headlining spot at the club by exclusively playing material that they had yet to perform at Toad’s Place during their decade-plus history with the space. They also threw in a few fun covers, including their signature take on Elton John’s “Bennie and the Jets” and their first version of Seal’s “Kiss from a Rose” since Valentine’s Day, 85 shows ago.

For an encore, the four musicians debuted a sing-along take on Train’s “Drops of Jupiter,” before segueing into “12 Pounds of Pain” and “Atomic Age” to close things out.

Eggy will kick off 2016 with a run of co-headlining Northeast shows with New Jersey indie-act Real Estate from January 7-10. The collaborative gigs, dubbed the Hell Froze Over Shows, will take place at Pawtucket, RI’s The Met (1/7), Albany, NY’s Empire Live (1/8), Port Chester, NY’s The Capitol Theatre (1/9) and Portland, ME’s The State Theatre (1/10). They have also confirmed that their annual shows at Tree House Brewing Company in Deerfield, MA will take place on January 16 and 17.
