Fetty Wap was released from prison three years into his six-year sentence for drug-related charges. He will continue his sentence in home confinement.
Rapper, singer, and songwriter Fetty Wap was released from prison in Minnesota on Thursday after serving three years of his six-year sentence from a drug-related conviction in 2022. He will continue his sentence under home confinement in Philadelphia; the Bureau of Prisons reports he will have served the required amount of his sentence on November 8.
“I want to thank my family, friends, and fans for the love, prayers, and continued support—it truly means everything to me,” said Fetty, whose real name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, in a statement after his release.
“Right now, my focus is on giving back through my community initiatives and foundation, supporting at-risk young children by expanding access to education, early tech skills, and vision care for young kids and students so they can show up as their best selves. I’m committed to moving forward with purpose and making a meaningful impact where it matters most.”
He also confirmed that he had been released with a post on his Instagram Stories that read, “Home.”
In May 2023, the artist was initially sentenced to six years in prison and five of post-release supervision for his role in a drug trafficking ring. His defense attorney asked for five years, while prosecutors sought a seven- to nine-year sentence.
He was one of six people charged with conspiring to possess and distribute drugs in an operation that shipped narcotics from the West Coast for sale in New Jersey and Long Island. Authorities arrested Fetty Wap in October 2021, and he pleaded guilty in August 2022.
The “Trap Queen” rapper was serving his sentence at a low-security prison in Sandstone, Minnesota. He was scheduled for release this December.
Besides “Trap Queen,” his other well-known hits include “My Way” and “Forever (71943509),” and he appeared as a guest on Doe Boy’s “Lil Sexy” last summer.
