Folk Bitch Trio have formally detailed their debut studio album, which is entitled Now Would Be A Good Time. The 10-track effort is set for release on Friday, July 25th via American indie label Jagjaguwar. To coincide with its announcement, the Melbourne band have shared a new single, ‘Cathode Ray’, and also announced a national tour for September 2025. Both the song, and the Trio’s upcoming headlining tour dates, can be found below.

‘Cathode Ray’ marks the third single to be lifted from Now Would Be A Good Time, following the release of ‘God’s A Different Sword’ last August and ‘The Actor’ last month. “It expresses a feeling of being trapped in myself, and wanting to break out of that so violently that I’m literally talking about opening up a body viscerally,” said band member Gracie Sinclair in a press statement regarding the song. “It’s about frustration, and knowing there’s no cheap thrill that’s going to fix that.”

Now Would Be A Good Time was recorded on location in Auckland with producer Tom Healy, a member of bands such as Tiny Ruins, Soaked Oats and Jen Cloher & The Endless Sea. His previous production credits include albums by Marlon Williams, Hachiku and Die! Die! Die!. The majority of its songs had been roadtested throughout 2024, which saw the Trio supporting the likes of Ben Howard and Vacations, and into 2025 where they supported Rufus Wainwright nationally.

This month will see the Melbourne band return to the UK and Europe for a run of dates, including The Great Escape festival in Brighton, before heading to North America in July to perform at the Winnipeg Folk Festival. Following the album’s release, the band will return to Australia for their album tour, which will see them perform across most major capital cities this September.
