The Foo Fighters won the first-ever Global Icon Award at MTV’s Video Music Awards. The honor originated from the European version of the VMAs. The award is to be given to “who has left an indelible mark on the musical landscape and continues to influence, inspire and evolve.” The band was also nominated for Best Rock, Best Cinematography, and Best Choreography for the video for their track “Shame Shame.”

In addition to their nominations and honors, the band played a short set for the crowd gathered at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. With “R.I.P. Charlie” written on their drum set, in honor of the late Charlie Watts, the rock band opened with their 1999 track, “Learn to Fly,” then “Shame Shame,” which comes off their 2021 release Medicine at Midnight and closed with their beloved and seminal hit “Everlong.”
